YOU Can Help Find a Cure for COVID-19!

As we all know Corona virus(COVID-19) has emerged as a major threat to the entire humanity. While the whole world is trying to find a cure for this pandemic, what if I told you that even you can help them in a way?🙄 Yes! You heard it right😎. Folding@home is a distributed computing project originally designed by Stanford university, California to study about protein folding, molecular structures and their behaviour. Folding@home is now based at the Washington University and have extended their studies to performing molecular dynamics simulations of protein dynamics. And now they are helping the world to find a vaccine for the COVID-19 where you can also be a part of the same💯

How does Folding@home work?

The project uses the idle processing power of your CPU(central processing unit) and GPU(graphical processing unit) of your system to run complex simulations about protein dynamics. It uses statistical simulation methodology which is different from traditional computing methods. Folding@home uses client–server model network architecture so that all the volunteered machines each receives s pieces of simulation at a time to run. After completing, it sends back the results to the project's database servers, where the units are compiled into an overall simulation. In simple terms, it’s like partitioning a huge task to many people and combines all the results to a single one so that time consumed for the same can be minimized⌚

What are the benefits of Folding@home?

The main advantage is that with very little technical knowledge you can set up your computer to help find cures for diseases like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson's, various types of cancer, ALS and even COVID-19. The more people that get involved, the more processing power there is to simulate the protein folding and the faster the results will be achieved👏. Currently, the network now comprises a whopping 'exaflop' of computing power,ie 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 operations per second which is technically faster than the fastest supercomputer ever made😍. It is estimated that a network of 1 million PC’s are currently active in this project with an average of 700,000 units at any given time. This became possible through the massive ‘crowdsourcing’ by many volunteers all around the world👌
Considering the urgency to finding a cure for the corona virus, tech giants like Nvidia, Intel and Google are requesting casual users🚶‍♂️, gamers🎮 or anyone with a PC🖥 to join this venture🤸‍♀️

How you can be a part of this?

Well, it’s very simple. All you need is a PC with a GPU and a working internet connection. Go to folding@home’s website and download this📥 setup file. Once downloaded, install it and provide your name. You can also fold anonymously or with a group. I recommend you to join either LTT(223518) or PCMR(225605) and passkey is for additional security🔰. There is detailed instructions given at their site about installation. You can check it out here.👇
The folding@home team has confirmed that it is supporting researchers at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City to develop treatments for COVID-19. So, even if you select any disease in the program, it will automatically fold for COVID-19.

As folding@home team says, you are one in a million😇. All those awesome computing power didn't came from a single user. Every user can make a difference in this effort. May be your system is not that powerful. But at this time, it doesn't matter since something is always better than nothing💯. I request everyone to join this amazing project and help the world to find a cure for COVID-19🙏. You can learn more about folding@home here👇
